Hi all:

As you know on Fridays I bring you new authors and books. I’m still trying to catch up and thank people who were kind enough to feature my new YA series in their blog, and there was one author that I realised at the time had never appeared but I managed to misplace her information.

Author Susanne Leist

Author Susanne Leist

So, today I bring you Susanne Leist. She is very kind and supportive of other authors. But don’t just think that because she’s kind she can’t pull a good intrigue and a scary one at that.

From the bio in Amazon:

Hi! I’m Susanne Leist and I’ve just published my first book, The Dead Game. I’ve read almost every murder mystery. I’ve been faced with countless clues and dead bodies over the years. My goal has been to write a book different than any other book that I’ve ever read. And I believe I have accomplished that goal. My book is a murder mystery with its requisite twists and turns, but it is set against of backdrop of unexplainable phenomena.
I can’t give away too much of the plot, but it is a heady roller coaster ride–fun for all!

Here a link to her page, so you can follow her:

And her novel:

The Dead Game by Susanne Leist

The Dead Game by Susanne Leist

Terror has to come to our town.
Why the big unhappy frown?
The Dead are here to stay.
They have come out to play.
The church is burning down.
There goes our pretty town.
I am their leader, you see.
Bow down now and worship me.
THE DEAD GAME

Book 1 in Series

Can you feel your heart beating? Is it beating too fast? Do you feel trapped? This
is because you are. You’re standing in a pool of water, in the basement of End
House, wearing your party clothes. But there is no party, no host and no
guests. The door behind you locks shut. The only way is forward, through the
falling cages with their sharp edges, ready to ensnare their next victim.
Circular saws begin to descend, looking for heads to slice off.

Meanwhile, Linda is upstairs with the rest of her friends being pursued by creatures
through revolving rooms. Or are they illusions? What should she do?

Run!

The owner of End House takes no prisoners.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The Dead Game by Susanne Leist is a mysterious supernatural thriller with plenty of twists and turns that is well-written and keeps you turning the page. From the first page you start a wild ride and just when you think all is well, she throws in another twist.
Rhonda Cratty, Parenting & Education ExaminerI was absolutely surprised by this book! I knew it had some enigmatic mystery and some dark action, but the author set up the story so well I was happily amazed. It starts with a very engaging character, a young woman who is very well portrayed in a community, Oasis, Florida. The town’s mysteries are maze-like and become deeper and more sinister as the book progresses. This is a very original approach to the concept of vampires and their existence.
Ray Miller “Relevant Reviewer”

The Dead Game by Susanne Leist is a top-notch haunted house horror thriller. The author excels at spooky descriptions, terrifying scenarios like opening a door and stepping into a black abyss or forever trapped in a dark maze with endless rooms stretching into infinity. Her characters are perfect and the reader can easily connect with them.
Simon Okill, Simon’s Phantom BlogA beachfront town, a haunted mansion, people disappearing or turning up dead–these are the elements of gothic horror, but this unique novel has a more than a few twists. The writing is first-rate, and the pace is fast. The characters are well-defined, and the plot is imaginative and unpredictable…
Howard Lipman, pen name PanOrpheus, author

Susanne’s take on vampires is fresh and new but you’ll have to read to know. She takes the age old vampire legend and turns it into something I’ve never read before…
Elle Klass, Author of As Snow Falls

From the Author

I have always loved to read books. My goal has been to write a book different than any other book that I’ve ever read. And I believe I have accomplished this goal. The Dead Game has dead bodies and suspects like a traditional murder mystery. However, it also has humans, vampires, and vampire derivatives. It has plenty of romance and thrills. And don’t forget the haunted house–we must have one of these.

The Dead Game has begun.

Hi all:

As  you know I read and review books and share the reviews in a variety of places. I recently read the first novel in the new series by Charlaine Harris, a well loved author, and thought I’d bring you my impressions.

Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris

Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris

The #1 New York Times bestselling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, “is back with a vengeance” (Tangled Web) with this first book in an all-new trilogy—and inviting readers to an even darker place on the map…

Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own).

INCLUDES AN EXCERPT FROM THE NEXT NOVEL IN THE SERIES, THE DAY SHIFT

Here is my review:

I have read a few novels by Charlaine Harris before. Some from the Sookie Stackhouse collection but also a couple more, and I was intrigued by this novel that announces the beginning of another series.

Midnight is a semi-ghost town where Manfred, a young man who has psychic powers and works as an internet and phone psychic (although most of his advice has nothing to do with his real abilities) arrives at the beginning of his novel. His arrival serves as an introduction for the readers as well and the first chapter is mostly descriptive of the town and its inhabitants. Apart from being a quiet place, it appears that by tacit agreement, people in Midnight follow a policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell”. Some characters seem to have their secrets closer to the surface than others, but my impression is that as the series develops we’ll learn many mysterious things from most (if not all) the characters.

A murder is discovered (during the first, and probably the last, annual picnic of Midnight) and the investigation and complications that ensue result in an unravelling of many of the secrets that had been so well kept until then.

I found the cast of characters promising (the reverend with his Pet Cemetery, Fiji and her, oh so very special cat, Bobo, Olivia and Lemuel…), the setting interesting enough, and the central story itself intriguing and I did not guess the outcome. The style is deceptively easy, and the omniscient third person narrator that takes on different characters’ point of view in turn, helps us empathise and get to know some of them better (although, of course, not all of them). There are paranormal elements, a vampire and his human girlfriend who make a deadly couple (but good friends of their friends), magic, bizarre pawn shops, white supremacist groups, lies, Halloween parties, wholesome meals, justice of sorts, and a moral/ethical question that will make you think and ponder your position.

Midnight Crossroad  is an engaging and easy read that has good rhythm and comes to a satisfying conclusion although leaves enough answered questions to keep you coming back. I’m not sure I’d move there, but for sure I’ll keep on reading.

When preparing this post I realised the second book on the series is available on pre-order and due to be published in May, so I leave you some information and the link here too:

Day Shift by Charlaine Harris

Day Shift by Charlaine Harris

Day Shift (Midnight Texas)

Welcome to Midnight, Texas.

It’s a quiet little town, perched at the junction between Davy Road and Witch Light Road, and it’s easy to miss. With its boarded-up windows, single traffic light and sleepy air, there’s nothing special about Midnight . . . which is exactly how the residents like it.

So when the news comes that a new owner plans to renovate the run-down, abandoned old hotel in town, it’s not met with pleasure. Who would want to come to Midnight, with its handful of shops, the Home Cookin diner, and quiet residents – and why?

But there are bigger problems in the air. When Manfred Bernado, the newest resident in town, is swept up in a deadly investigation suddenly the hotel and its residents are the least of the towns concern. The police, lawyers and journalists are all headed to Midnight, and it’s the worst possible moment . . .

During those sessions, she proves that love can wait patiently through lifetimes for the chance to blossom and be fulfilled. She also inadvertently reveals that she’s been hiding a unique musical talent. She’s the once-in-a- generation summoner, who can call any creature with her flute. Even vampires.

#7 THE
NIGHTLIFE SAN ANTONIO (June 9th 2014)
Review:

The Nightlife London by Travis Luedke. Of vampires, fallen angels, werewolves, nightlife and…love? (5 STARS)

What is love? When thinking about writing the review for Mr Luedke’s novel (the fourth on the series of the Nightlife, following on from New York, Las Vegas and Paris) I came to the conclusion that most fictional novels are about love, in one way or another. Of course romantic novels make love their central theme, but other genres and even literary fiction orbit around love. Be it family love, love for art, love of animals, love for nature and the world, love of travelling, love of power and success, love of money, love of beauty, love of justice, love of revenge, love of God, love of science, love of philosophy, love of sex…I won’t push it further and say that even non-fiction is about love (although be it love of information, of exploring one’s life or that of others, or passion for a particular hobby or skill form the basis of a fair amount of other types of books) but I think you get my gist.

‘The Nightlife London’ is an urban paranormal novel with plenty of action, excitement, dangers, seedy locations, Afghan and Colombian gangs, criminals, prostitution, drugs, blood, sex…and vampires, werewolves, fallen angels, all within our contemporary world, but not as we know it. Mr Luedke has woven a net of complicated relationships, rewriting the folklore of vampires and the paranormal, giving the vampires’ bite and their venom wondrous and sensuous properties, mixing healing and life-giving properties with enslavement and extreme dependency. Like the Greek Gods, Mr Luedke’s vampires are much more than human, but at the same time very human, with their emotions, their weaknesses, their hatreds, their needs…and their love.

From the first novel, where he becomes a vampire, Aaron has tried to maintain his own sense of self (despite owing loyalty to Michelle and being connected, first to her and now to Urvashi, and able to read other people’s thoughts) and morality, and he’s been challenged by powers that are difficult to master, relationships that keep changing, and more than anything, by his human emotions. He’s still in love with Michelle, has a not fully-understood relationship with Urvashi (a fallen angel full of mystery and surprises), still mourns his wife Anastasia and to the mix is added Katia, one of the Russian wolves/allies sent by Urvashi. Would you be able to love somebody who smells of wet-dog? More to the point…Is it really love? Are any of the relationships in the book love? I guess that depends on your definition of love. I think although some of the relationships in the book are pretty alternative, dependent, predatory…they would still qualify as some kind of love.

I personally like the two new characters, Katia and Ivan and their loyalty to the pack. The clashes of personalities between vampires and wolves at the beginning of the novel make for some very humorous situations but things get more serious as the plot progresses and their mission to find Michael Jamison doesn’t go quite according to plan.

If you’re looking for thrilling action, passionate sex scenes (a word of warning, it’s an adult novel), urban underbelly settings, gore, paranormal, vampires, werewolves…you’ll find it all in the new novel of the Nightlife series. The writing is fast-paced; the plot is exciting and the characters well-drawn and very human. And as a bonus you might find yourself thinking about what is love, like I did. Maybe we’ll get the answer in the next novel. I was looking forward to Moscow but I have just heard that the series makes a detour through San Antonio (Texas) to warm up a bit after the cold winter in London. I sympathise although worry that if it gets any hotter it could burst into flames, not terribly good for vampires (or the rest of the nightlife). Saying that, I’m really looking forward to the San Antonio visit. I hope you do too.

All he wanted was to get laid. They both got more than they bargained for.

why he picks her up in the hospital parking lot three days later and then ducks
the San Antonio police and the Feds. Well, the hot sex might have something to
do with it.
She needed to hide. With no memory of
even her name, she didn’t know from who. She only knew she wasn’t safe.
Adrian soon learns she is much more than
a damsel in distress, and he’s stuck with her. It isn’t long before the past
she cannot remember begins to catch up with them both…
THE NIGHTLIFE SAN ANTONIO is a non-stop
thrill ride through the shadowy borderworld of mafia politics and vampires –
and sex.

Like all Fridays I bring you an author guest who is also launching a new book. If  you’re into vampires novels, you should not miss this chance to get to know Shane KP O’Neill and his Dracula Chronicles. And without further ado:

SHANE KP O’NEILL – THE DRACULA CHRONICLES.

Once read, never forgotten.

EXPERIENCE THE ULTIMATE BATTLE OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL. THE BATTLE FOR SOULS HAS BEGUN.

The Dracula Chronicles is a new and exciting series adding a fresh dimension to the Dracula legend, which combines the real historical Vlad Dracula with a new and different version of Dracula the vampire. The series has been released in two arcs, one that follows Dracula the man and the other following Dracula the vampire. It is written in a style that is both literary and cinematic, that places you there in the thick of the action always.

The books are historical novels of Gothic horror; religious corruption; political intrigue; tragedy; war; dark paranormal fantasy; and deep romance. The premise is built around Creation and the divide in Heaven that results from Lucifer’s jealousy of the creation of man. This leads to the First Great War of the Angels and Lucifer’s eventual expulsion from Heaven with all those who sided with him. The annihilation of the angels continues, but rather than destroy Lucifer, God agrees to a truce. By its terms, Lucifer can contest the soul of every living being as long as he does not interfere with their free will. Should he control more souls than God at any time, he can ascend again to Heaven and cast God and the angels out. He would then have a free hand to destroy all mankind.

Lucifer turns man against God with ease. God responds by sending his prophets one after another to bring man back to the path of righteousness. It seems to be merely delaying the inevitable and in one last effort to thwart Lucifer, God sends his son made man. In giving his life on the Cross, Jesus wipes away man’s sins. This leaves Lucifer back to where he was at the beginning and means he has to start again. The Catholic Church is born on that fateful day in Jerusalem as Christ’s church on the earth. Lucifer then believes if he can destroy this great icon of God, he can turn man against God once more. He searches for over a millennium for the one who can lead his assault on God. The Crusades give him renewed hope, and he is sure the conflict between Christian and Moslem will provide the one he seeks. When this does not materialise, he turns his attention to the Balkan region where this conflict is renewed with Ottoman expansion into eastern Europe. He finally identifies the second son of Vlad Dracul as the one he can manipulate into achieving his ends. God has prepared for this event, and in the very moment that Vlad Dracula draws his first breath, so does another child sired by Dracul, though born to a gypsy woman. This child, Andrei, is blessed by the angels and bestowed with great powers as a balance to the evil about to be unleashed upon the world.

THE VLAD DRACULA ARC.

The Vlad Dracula arc.. Books #1 to #5. Set in the 15th Century Balkans, this arc brings to life in its entirety the world in which the real historical Vlad Dracula lived. It follows his loves; his triumphs; his many great tragedies; the betrayals he endures; and his great struggle to survive his many perils and secure the autonomy of his sovereign nation, Wallachia, which is sandwiched between the mighty Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires. The books introduce you to all the great players of the period, their political machinations, and their great conflicts set within the battle between Christianity and Islam. They follow Lucifer and his schemes to manipulate the young Vlad Dracula into seeing through his great plan. Replete with references that are Biblical and drawn from the writings of the Kabbalah, The Dracula Chronicles also introduce a new vision of Hell and take you on a journey you will never forget.

THE BOUND BY BLOOD ARC.

The Bound By Blood arc.. Books #6 to #10. This arc begins with Dracula’s last great battle at Snagov in 1476. Despite winning yet another great victory, his enemies mortally wound him with arrows. He orders his men to take him to the chapel at the nearby monastery so he can die on holy ground. To his great chagrin, it is Lucifer who comes to claim his soul. The Dark One speaks of his great vision, and of how he has chosen Dracula as his instrument to bring down the Catholic Church. He bites into Dracula’s neck and then gives him his own blood to drink. In doing so, he creates a monster, superhuman and immortal, who can live through the ages and help him win the battle for souls.

Into the 16th Century, wherever the Catholic Church is harmed or loses its influence, Dracula is there behind the scenes to propagate it all. He involves himself with Machiavelli; Martin Luther; in the Italian wars between France and Spain; the Borgias; Henry VIII and the Tudor dynasty; and many more.

At the same time his brother, Andrei, takes up the fight against him and arms the Church with the knowledge of how to counter him. In resurrecting Dracula’s legitimate brother, Radu, from the dead so as to exact retribution against him, Dracula and Lucifer have unleashed a powerful enemy who has joined the battle against them.

PREQUEL – THE LAMB OF GOD.

The Lamb Of God - Cover

The Lamb Of God – Cover

This is a prequel to For Whom The Bell Tolls and the entire The Dracula Chronicles series. It offers a taste of what is to come, giving the background of the concept, the Crucifixion, and the night of the births of Vlad and Andrei.

If you subscribe to my blog, link below, I will send you a free download of this prequel. You can also hear an audio version, narrated by myself, on my website and on my YouTube channel.

BOOK #1 – FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS.

For Whom The Bell Tolls - Cover

For Whom The Bell Tolls – Cover

“A war rages on around us every day. The struggle to save all mankind. The ultimate evil.”

All is well in Heaven until God creates man. Lucifer’s jealousy leads to the First Great War of the Angels. Hundreds of thousands of years on, the feud simmers beneath the surface. It plots the course of history as we know it today. Both sides manipulate the major players through the centuries to seek an advantage over the other.

The battle for souls has raged since the truce that followed the First Great War. God has struck the ultimate blow and sacrifice to gain the advantage, and defeat Lucifer. As Lucifer stands at the foot of the Cross that drains the last ounce of life from Christ and eradicates man’s sins, he realises that his work must begin anew.

In time, he comes to understand that his only chance to win this battle will be to destroy the institution of the Catholic Church to turn man against God. He searches for more than a millennium for the candidate to see his plan through to an end, and finally discovers the one that can cast that final blow.

On a cold night in December, 1431 in Sighisoara, an old gypsy woman delivers a prophecy to the great Vlad Dracul. She tells him he is about to sire two sons, one an angel and the other a devil.

He returns to his fortress just as his wife bears him a son, whom he names Vlad. In the very same moment across the country on the border between Transylvania and Hungary, a gypsy girl gives birth to another son, Andrei. The die is cast. The twin souls are born. The young Vlad Dracula becomes the instrument of the forces of Darkness. To balance this, the baby Andrei is blessed by the angels and bestowed with awesome powers.

This is their story.

AMAZON REVIEWS – FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS.

“I never thought a man could be capable of writing with such sensitivity and emotion.”

“Beautifully written with great story lines, the author does not hold back in his descriptions of many brutal acts of violence (save for a very long and tastefully done sex scene).”

“The relationships between father and son, the son and his captors and the individual characterisations are way beyond what a fantasy/paranormal book might offer. The writing is of literary class.”

“FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS differs from Shane K.P. O’Neill’s BOUND BY BLOOD sagas in that it takes place years prior to Dracula’s vampiric existence, but this in no way diminishes the power and intensity of its read. Events unfold with the depth of a historical epic.”

BOOK #2 – THE PATH TO DECAY.  (Release date March 20, 2014).

THE PATH TO DECAY

THE PATH TO DECAY

“The path we walk, is the path to decay. The only way to live, is to die.”

The great Vlad Dracul is dead, fallen in battle, and his throne gone. His son, the young Vlad Dracula, is consumed with grief and a need for revenge. All alone in the world, he keeps his promise and returns to Anatolia. There, he takes a commission in the Ottoman army. On the fields outside Kosovo Polje in Serbia, he is handed his first opportunity to strike back against the men who killed his father.

He has grown into the ultimate fighting machine, and is feared by one and all. This path to decay, as described by his father, is the one he chooses to follow. Lucifer guides and watches over Dracula, but also deepens his hold over him. As time passes, though, his enemies build in every quarter, and they strive to bring him down.

With nowhere left to turn, how will Dracula avenge his family? How can he hope to win back his throne? As he faces one tragedy after another, these events mould him into the man who will be spoken of for centuries to come. A man who lets nothing stand in his way in his pursuit for revenge, and the throne that was his father’s.

Immortalised with Lucifer’s blood coursing through his veins, the two are bound by blood for eternity. Lucifer has groomed him for this day and lays out the task before him.

THE AUTHOR.

Author Shane KP O'Neill

Author Shane KP O’Neill

The author developed a fascination with Dracula from an early age. Like many others he was enthralled by Christopher Lee’s portrayal of him on the big screen. It was in his late teens that he discovered Dracula the man and the love affair began from there. An avid lover of history, he studied the period in which the real historical Vlad Dracula lived, 15th Century Balkan, for many years. It followed from there then that with his love of writing he would always choose Dracula as his subject.  He built a concept and premise where he could accommodate both Dracula the vampire and Dracula the man.

Away from writing, the author has a wide range of interests. He reads a lot of books from a wide variety of authors, though his main interest lies in the horror genre.  His love of books is matched only by his love of the countryside and of course, his family.  As an added note, he has lived and travelled all over the world. He has a love for all things historical, with a particular fascination for medieval Europe. Anywhere he travels, he likes to search out locations with an historical interest and will always hunt for the ruins of an old castle before heading to the beach.

I’m sure you want to learn more about the Dracula Chronicles and get in touch with the author, so here I leave you some Links:

Hi all:

These days I let the content of my posts be dictated by those thoughts or connections that keep popping up in my mind and refuse to go. In the last couple of weeks I’ve watched three movies, and although they are very different, I couldn’t help but notice that they have something in common: the main characters wave wads of money around. What they are trying to achieve couldn’t be further apart.

Only Lovers Left Alive

Only Lovers Left Alive

In Jim Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive  (I give a brief summary and more details of the movies at the end obtained from www.imdb.com ), Adam and Eve (the film is loosely based in a book by Mark Twain , The Diaries of Adam and Eve. If you want a free e-version go here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0195101529/ although others are available) are two vampires who’ve lived (or been undead) for centuries and have been in love it seems for as long. They are exquisitely well educated (I love the scene where Eve is packing to go and visit Adam, as she lives in Tangiers and he is in Detroit, and she packs two suitcases full of books [a woman/vampire after my own heart] after speedreading classics in many languages), live pretty isolated lives, and feed themselves by buying blood from well-connected doctors and blood-banks.  Despite their peculiar lives, their existence is like a shining diamond compared to that of the human being around them because they appreciate the beautiful things around him, literature, music and love. Adam doesn’t call humans ‘zombies’ for nothing. He is a musician and seems a romantic lost in the modern world, with suicidal ideation and all. Eve reminds him that he has lived through similar experiences when he was associating with Lord Byron and his circle. The film is astonishingly beautiful. Even a dilapidated Detroit looks sad but fitting.

John Hurt, who plays Christopher Marlowe, throwing darts with a painting of Shakespeare as target, is wonderful, as always. Unfortunately, he runs out of supply of “the good stuff” and ends up dying because of contaminated blood.

Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas Buyers Club, based on a true story, where the main character, Ron Woodroof, played in a well-deserved Oscar winning performance by Matthew McConaughey, is a Dallas electrician who is neither educated not sophisticated. He seems to be only interested in drugs (cocaine mostly) and women (more about that later) and as we discover when he is diagnosed with AIDS due to an accident at work, he’s homophobic too. At the time of his diagnosis the illness was very poorly understood and most people thought transfusions, IV drug use or homosexual relations were the likely culprits. After a brief period of denial he discovers that unprotected sex, that he has plenty of, can also be a mode of transmission. They give him 30 days to live. His character is not likeable. He’s sexist, homophobic, and seems to live only for the moment. But he won’t quit. He’s determined to live for as long as he can, and he will confront whoever gets in his way, be the FDA, hospital, doctors, the government. He is not completely altruistic (when he starts bringing drugs from Mexico and later on from wherever he can get them, he charges people and you have the sense that he is making money out of it), but he is not heartless and he goes out of his way to share the information he finds, including sending medication to a policeman friend, for his father who suffers dementia. And he seems to abstain sexually until he finds a girl who comes to the clinic seeking treatment (and boy, is he happy about that!). He also gets to accept homosexuality and defends his transgender friend and associate Rayon, a deeply touching Jared Leto (who again deserves the oscar). Throughout the movie we see Ron change and be transformed by his experience

There are brief scenes where you get to sense the real person behind the bravado (like when Ron goes for dinner with his female doctor and friend, and they talk about his mother, who was a painter but abandoned him when he was very young) and I particularly liked the scene when Rayon, dressed in a man’s suit, goes to visit his father, a banker, who at some point says ‘God help me’ and Rayon says: ‘He is. I got AIDS.’

The film is not one for great stylistics. It does have the look of a documentary, and the form is at the service of telling the story. The performances of the two main male actors are outstanding.

The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street

I mentioned how Ron is mostly interested in drugs and women. He shares these interests with Jordan Belfort, the protagonist of another story based on real events Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. His other interest being making money. The film is fast paced (although it’s quite long), beautifully filmed, has fantastic performances, it is really funny at times (when both Jordan and his best friend and associate end up legless due to a drug overdose the movie becomes pure slapstick) but it is horrifying. When I talked about American Hustle a few weeks ago I discussed the possible amorality of the film, here there is no doubt; this is a celebration of trickstery, corruption and fraud in the grand scale. Money is justified by itself, there are no limits to greed and selfishness, and when punishment finally arrives, it is too little, too late. And judging by the seminars the character is offering at the end, he has learned nothing in the process. Matthew McConaughey plays a small but powerful part (reminiscent of Alec Baldwin’s bit-part in the film version of Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross) giving Jordan his own version of the ethics (or lack of) of being a stockbroker.

Would I recommend them? They are all good films, although very different. Dallas Buyers Club is a solid movie with great performances, and a history of the human spirit and human resilience. The Wolf of Wall Street is like King Midas’s story in modern times, but with no punishment. If you hate bankers and financiers and feel aggrieved by the current economic situation I don’t recommend it as it will make your blood boil. I think that Only Lovers Left Alive will become a cult-film, and I’m intending to buy it and watch it more than once. It is one of those movies (like Blade Runner or even Wall-E) where the non-humans have more appreciation and understanding of the beauty and greatness of life than humans do. Maybe we should take heed.

Author: Travis Luedke
• Release Date: August 18, 2012
Genre: Paranormal, Adult Romance

Synopsis ::
Vampires, strippers, escorts, night clubs, gangs, pimps and corrupt cops, the Nightlife of New York is never boring.
Is she a beautiful blond guardian angel as he imagined, or something else entirely? When Michelle saves Aaron’s life she shares the benefits of her blood (after getting him shot accidentally). He awakes a changed man, living in a purgatory of eternal night, never to see the sunrise again.
Michelle drags Aaron through a hardcore learning curve of vampiric slavery. Forced to adapt to servitude, Aaron is subject to her authority of compulsion. She orders him around like a puppet on a string, a dog on a very short leash. First things first, he must learn to feed properly without creating bloodslaves (humans addicted to the powerful drug-like effect of their venomous bite).
And then she puts him to work-a male escort in the sex trade-same as Michelle. Aaron walks a tightrope of strictly controlled feeding regiments and intensely erotic sexual adventures while catering to the neurotic control-freak tendencies of his new master. It’s do or die, Michelle vows to eliminate him if he proves too difficult to control. The real kicker-amidst all these shocking and degrading adjustments, Aaron finds he’s falling in love.
Can he maintain and keep a sliver of his humanity intact? Innocence is a luxury few can afford in the decadent nightlife of New York. In a world where sex, blood, and power over women is so readily accessible, Aaron struggles against the predatory instincts deeply rooted in his new psyche. He must find his way quickly, practicing rigid self-control, or risk the consequences of Michelle’s wrath.
