It had to be said! Teagan Geneviene reminds us that words have power and we must think of how we use them. SWEET is not always sweet after all. She’s right.

This is a different sort of post for me.  I try to restrict my posts to topics related to writing, publishing, and images.  This topic has nothing to do with writing — yet it has everything to do with— any and everything, including writing.  It’s about one of my quickest triggers. Every time I think it’s gone away, out come more and more verbal “guns” slinging it.

“The Julia Sugarbaker Soapbox” is what I call it when I jump up onto my soapbox because of something about which I feel strongly.  (No, that doesn’t mean I’m about to make an exception to my rule about no discussions of politics or religion at my sanctuary.)  Why Julia Sugarbaker? The character brought to life by the late Dixie Carter, could spew out a rant in rapid-fire elegance with eloquence that was unparalleled. …

Let’s help Amy and her husband reach their goal of raising money for the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Departments at the rehabilitation centre that helped her live a full life again.

Our blogging friend Ami from https://undercoversuperhero.com/ is participating in a fundraising event with her husband to raise money for the unit that helped her through a long illness, and continues to help her and others today.

This is her post about that.

We’re Fundraising for the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Departments.

You may have already seen by now that me and Ewan are taking part in the Superhero Tri this year to raise money for the physiotherapy and occupational therapy departments at the rehabilitation centre where I stayed for 6 months in 2018.

If you’re unfamiliar with my story, in 2018 I almost died from double pneumonia, as I slowly recovered I realised I had lost the ability to do everything apart from moving my eyes or turning my head.

I had to learn everything again from writing, typing, brushing my hair and teeth, eating and drinking, to sitting in…

How should I say this…?  Tell everybody, but just don’t tell the ending!

Announcing…

The Armadillo Files

Armadillo Files anime style cover by Teagan Ríordáin Geneviene By Teagan Ríordáin Geneviene

It’s comic, cosmic, colorful, captivatingly calamitous, campy, and charmingly cray-cray!

Many of you are not around for the weekends, when I post my serial stories.  So, I didn’t wait until Saturday to make this announcement.  Besides… I couldn’t wait!

The conclusion of my latest “Three Things” style, spontaneously written blog serial, The Armadillo Files, will not air until this weekend.  However, I’ve just finished “bookizing” it.  The Kindle and paperback will be available at an introductory price for the next few days.

I made one change to the original story. My blog serials are directed at adult readers, even when they’re full-on whimsy (like this one). In bookizing the story, I decided it would have good appeal for younger readers as well. So, I made…

Random Reader Things

This serial is almost finished.  To give myself a change, my next project involves images, rather than “things.” Recently I asked photographers and artists to send me (via email or through links where the images are posted) three images that are “generally related” one another (unlike the randomness of the readerthings I need for serials).  I’ll use them to inspire short stories.  Resa McConaghy responded with several, including the…

Welcome back to the inside of my head.  It can be a wasteland in there.  You might want to bring some water. Don’t chicken out — come on inside.  You’re no dumb-cluck.  Later you can crow to the world that you survived.  Can you tell where I’m going yet?

For the Birds

Author Mind for the BirdsImage by Teagan

Sometimes the inside of my head is a long winding road through unhospitable terrain… and generally it’s just for the birds!  I’ve used birds in several of my stories.  Owls have been in Atonement, Tennessee.  Hawks have been in the Pip’s 1920s Three Ingredients series, as well as a macaw parrot.  Pigeons came into Hullaba Lulu. In Thistledown, Midsummer Bedlam, there was an irate chicken and everyone’s favorite, Bob the hummingbird.  Oh, and don’t forget Jinx the magpie in Brother Love.  I’m sure I’m overlooking some.
