So close!

Hi all:

If you’ve read my recent posts you will know that my summer didn’t go exactly according to plan and I’ve ended up spending some time at my parents. They have had the luck (?) of having some improvement works going on in front of their apartment. To be honest it’s never been a quiet place, with the train and underground (at that point overground) passing by in front of their window and a big road (the Cinturón de Ronda, a circular road going to the outskirts and the beach) under, but over the years most of these were covered.

This works seem to be taking forever, and although not quite as long as the Sagrada Familia, sometimes they feel like it. I’m not sure if it was divine intervention, but a few weeks ago, a lorry fell from the upper level (on top of the railway line, a road not open yet, only used for the building works so far) onto the works, and nobody was hurt. I leave you some pictures:

Oh it looks crazy!…
I so love Barcelona. I would read every book if it is about Barcelona. I think that if you were born there your chances of becoming a writer or a poet increase 200%.

I haven’t spend here as long as my parents, but from their account it seems that they must have changed their mind about what they were doing and done different things… Yes, the setting is not an easy one at best.

And here’s me thinking all this time you were just skiving. Who wouldn’t when Barcelona is the choice. I hope everything goes well from now on and that your parents have really good soundproofing from all the noise.

Thanks David. When they installed the high speed train (AVE) as it goes by my parents window they offered them triple-glazing and it is now installed. To be honest, the trains aren’t a problem but in the summer with the heat, and my father is against air-conditioning, so gets really hot. And of course, if you open the window… And there’s always the dust…
Usually Barcelona is pretty quiet in general in August as many people go on holiday (many shops close) and one can park the car in many places for free.
What they’ve done so far looks good and I’m sure it will be much better once is done but…

It seems impossible, but hey, a stroke of luck, I guess! They removed everything that night and you wouldn’t have known anything had happened by the next day.

Olga, what a nightmare. Here am I, whinging and whining about the dust, the constant mountain of rubble and never-ending building works and you are having the same thing but with lorries flying through the air! Poor you, I can imagine how it must get to you at times. Fingers, toes, everything crossed that the works finish soon and that harmony and peace are restored to the ‘burb 🙂

Thanks Lottie. Neither one is very enviable situation. It’s been going on for a while but hopefully it should look good once it’s finished (now they’re installing a lift…). The size of the works make them scarier, that’s for sure.
I hope yours bring you the beautiful home you deserve. And the space for courses, etc… I’m following your project closely. Good luck!

Olga, this is incredible, there you want to give your parents immediately to another apartment. With more beautiful view than on dirt, construction equipment and concrete walls, and of course without the noise and dust.

I hope very much that the works are completed quickly!

I must say when I lived there as a child, Vera, it was quite entertaining as it was like having Scalextric and a train set going by the window. But since they’ve started the works it’s been a nightmare.

Gracias Sally. As usual with these kinds of works they always seem to go on longer than anticipated but… I’m hoping to have a few days away for a break and more material for the blog!
